“Today marks an important milestone for Canada, setting a new record for newcomers welcomed in a single year. It is a testament to the strength and resilience of our country and its people. Newcomers play an essential role in filling labour shortages, bringing new perspectives and talents to our communities, and enriching our society as a whole. I am excited to see what the future holds and look forward to another historic year in 2023 as we continue to welcome newcomers.”

This energetic statement was given by the honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Canada. He addressed the nation in a press release as the country swiftly moves ahead to race against the effects of the pandemic. It strongly holds on to its immigrant-friendly policies.

As Canada immigration consultants in Delhi, let us inform you about this feat of the Great Canadian Nation.

431,645 new permanent Residents in Canada!

The Government of Canada expected to award 431,645 new permanent residents in 2022. This strategy was part of the 2022-2024 Immigration Levels Plan drawn out by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Canada or IRCC.

The Immigration Levels Plan for 2022–2024 will help Canada maintain its position as one of the top talent-attracting nations by laying the groundwork for post-pandemic economic growth, reconnecting families with their loved ones, and upholding Canadian humanitarian obligations.

Fortunately, the IRCC achieved their target for 2022 by granting permanent resident status to 431,645 applicants. It has beaten the record of last year’s 405,000 immigrants. What’s interesting is the fact that the last time so many people immigrated to Canada was in 1913.

Why does Canada need immigrants?

You must be wondering why Canada is so keen on accepting immigrants out of all G7 nations. The reason is that the Canadian population is quite old. The worker-to-retiree ratio in Canada is a high 2:1. As the retiring population increases, there are fewer people to take on jobs and work. Additionally, no one is there to serve and care for the old populace.

The COVID-19 pandemic also highlighted the major issue of labour shortages in Canada. It is a terrible blunt for the Canadian economy.

Despite having recovered many jobs that were lost due to the pandemic, there are still hundreds of thousands of openings in every sector. With 5 million Canadians expected to retire by the end of this decade, immigration now accounts for approximately 100% of the expansion in the labour force, and the worker-to-retiree ratio will only decrease to 3:1. This is a blatant indication that there is a critical economic need for more immigration.

Therefore, the Immigration Plan aims to fill the labour gap by attracting a large talent pool of individuals to take on the economic burden. Immigrants also add to Canadian multiculturalism, which is another one of its state policies.

What steps are taken to increase immigration to Canada?

To achieve its goal of 431,000 immigrants, the IRCC planned to increase the population in the following way.

  • Accepting immigrants that are 1.14% of the current Canadian population.
  • 60% of acceptances must be from the Economic Class.
  • Granting PR status to refugees working in health care.
  • Giving a haven to persecuted people.
  • Granting PR to temporary residents that immigrated to Canada in 2021 on a work visa.

IRCC has increased its resources, embraced new technology, expedited processing, and made more processes available online. These are all significant enhancements to the Canadian immigration system that will position them well for the future.

The government pledged an additional $50 million to IRCC in 2022–2023 in the Fall Economic Statement to reduce application backlogs, expedite processing, and enable skilled immigrants to fill pressing labour shortages more quickly.

What does the IRCC say to people who want to immigrate to Canada?

The IRCC will always keep its doors open to welcome talented people to boost the Canadian economy. It wants skilled workers, tradesmen, and businessmen to apply for Canadian citizenship and enrich its culture. IRCC also adheres to multicultural policies to build Canada into an accepting and free nation for people of all religions, regions, and nationalities.

It is proud of the following immigrant facts:

  • Immigration contributes to 100% of the labour force growth in Canada.
  • Economic Class immigration accounts for 75% of population growth.
  • Immigrants make up 30% of the Canadian population in 2036.
  • 1 out of 4 people in Canada will always turn out to be an immigrant.
  • 36% of physicians, 33% of business owners with paid staff, and 41% of engineers are immigrants.

Canadian government accepts people with open arms to enhance its New World culture. It always aims to create a mixed population that welcomes new ideas, new people, and new knowledge.
